Name: Karri
Todd
Years in Cambridge Multi-sport:
2
Reason for joining Cambridge MultiSport:
I wanted to meet other bike riders. I started
cycling again in 2008 after having my child in 2005, I wanted to do
something for myself and lose some weight.
Longest race:
Half Ironman, Nov. 2009
Biggest accomplishment:
Entering and finishing Beach 2 Battleship 70.3. I walked the majority of the
"run" but still finished. I was very happy with my swim and bike time, and
just wanted to get through the run.
Goal for 2010:
Raise $2500 for my MS 150 Bike Tour and Fundraiser, enter the
aquavelo of Chesapeake Man. Conquer the Nanticoke Sprint Triathlon in May.
That was my first race in 2009 and the swim was intimidating. This year I
want to actually swim the freestyle stroke in lieu of doggy paddling,
backstroke, and praying it would end. Seagull Century, Tim Kennard 5K and
enter several other running events. I also want to run more in 2010.
Why is it
worth being a member of CMS:
I have met individuals that I would not have met any other way. The
camaraderie keeps you motivated to set and meet your own fitness goals.
Training partners are always available. There is enough diversity in the
club no matter if you are a 14 minute mile jogger, or a 6 minute mile
runner. The support is unbelievable and CMS has helped me believe I could do
things that I thought were only possible in my dreams.

Name: Mike
Fadden
Years in Cambridge Multi-sport:
2
Reason for joining Cambridge
Multi-sport:
I wanted to feel "fit".
Longest race:
1/2 Marathon on the Outer Banks in November 2009.
Goals for 2010:
Continue to improve my running. Participate in one sprint or Olympic
distance triathlon.
Why it is worth being a member of CMS:
For most people fitness activities are also social. For me CMS has connected
me with some wonderful people who I would have otherwise never met. CMS is
about
sharing a common goal of improving fitness.
Three years ago I couldn't have run for an entire mile. Very slowly, without
hurting, and with the great encouragement from the club members I was able
to do a short triathlon last May which included a 3 mile run. Without CMS
that would not have happened.
At 57 years old I do not share the same
performance goals of the much younger members but I do find the energy and
focus of all the club members very motivating. For me it is not about the
distance or how fast I go...it's about energy I feel from trying. Anyone who
thinks they are too old or not already fit enough to enjoy membership in
this club is
most certainly wrong. It is a great welcoming
and caring place to begin a fitness makeover.
